While in New York City I went to the Top of the Rock. Which is where the photo above was taken. It is 67 stories up. Going out onto the outside balcony it was rather windy and I felt like I'd fly off of the balcony. On 5th Avenue I had to check out my favorite designer shop, Henri Bendel. I even got to sign my name on their graffiti wall. More pictures from Henri are below. It was raining the day we were on 5th Avenue. I went to Mood fabrics which is where they get fabric on Project Runway. I wish I could buy all of my fabric from them. Their selection was amazing and the staff was very helpful. While exploring China Town and Little Italy we stopped at Cafe Palermo to get some coffee and Italian cookies. The coffees in the picture look much bigger then they actually were. They were really little. The picture below was taken in Washington Square park. One of the last things we did was go to The MET. It was really neat to see all the different styles of art. We didn't have much time but it was neat.

Audacious: willing to take surprisingly bold risks. Don't be afraid to go bold and express oneself through them. I put together a list of some of my favorite accessories to show you. Some are from current trends and others are just for fun.
Outfit #1Outfit #2Outfit #3Shirts with flared sleeves have might a comeback this summer. I paired mine with a beaded choker. Since my top was a solid color I picked a printed body-con skirt. For shoes I went with some classic black t-strap sandals. My bag is the Jet-setter backpack from Henri Bendel. Outfit 1

Outfit 3Have a great school year!
Audrey is sophisticated and is one of my biggest style icons. She was poised, fabulous, and inspiring. Audrey is well known for being Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." In the picture above I recreated the iconic beginning movie scene picture. I was dressed like Holly (Audrey) for Chickfest at Carole & Co. There is just something about dressing like Audrey that brings out an aura of sophistication. Not to mention her love for chocolate cake, "Let's face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me." Audrey Hepburn, once said. Almost all of my favorite quotes are from Audrey Hepburn. I truly feel her quotes have meaning and purpose. I feel that at least once in a life time each lady should have a feel for being Audrey. Ta-ta for now, darlings!
I recently got 2 items from Henri Bendel and I was very pleased with my purchases. I purchased both items online on their website. (henribendel.com)
The packaging in itself is amazing. First you just see this white box with brown polka dot tape but when you open it it's like magic. The inside has their signature brown and white stripes. I also received a Henri Bendel shopping bag in the box which I now have displayed in my bedroom. I then came to find my cosmetic bags wrapped in beautiful tissue paper. The tissue paper is covered with sketches of their New York City store front and has the signature stripes on the edge. I also purchased a Jetsetter convertible backpack which came in the same style of beautiful packaging. I love how both of my items came with their own protecting bags with their brand name and signature stripes. I did not expect the cosmetics bags to come with a bag. I figured they are just used for makeup and other toiletries, why would they need a bag? The quality of both of the products I got is amazing. They make sure to keep the hardware protected with paper when it's shipped to you. The fabrics they use seem to be very high quality and are very durable. I am very pleased with my Henri Bendel purchases. Since the weather has been getting colder now it is time to dress in layers. Here in Iowa, winters can be quite brutal if you're not layered up, but layering up doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. For a casual look pair a t-shirt or blouse with a cardigan, your favorite jeans and boots. For additional warmth add a scarf and thick socks or boot socks to this look. The pictures below depict this look. For work wear a blouse with a blazer over it and slacks/dress pants. The pictures below show this look. To make this look even warmer add a sweater in between your blouse and blazer. For another variation on this look wear a skirt with tights instead of dress slacks. For going-out or a dress occasion you can still wear your favorite dress. Just pair your dress with some tights and a sweater, furry jacket, or shawl. Pair with some sparkly earrings. Look at the below picture for an example. My favorite go to warm coat is a trench or a double breasted coat. I like to pair it with some gloves and a hat. Below is an example of the double breasted coat. I hope these layering ideas will keep you warm during this cold winter season!
There are just a few things I always carry in my purse and I think everyone should also carry. Each of the following items I use all the time and if I happen to don't have one of them in my purse I get frustrated. (Besides my cell phone and wallet.)
Band-aids- Some shoes just seem to make my feet blistered but that doesn't stop me from wearing them. I always am having to put a band-aid on my heel to keep it from rubbing against my shoe. Plus I never know when I'm going to accidentally cut my finger on something. It's better to be safe then sorry. Chapstick/Lip Balm- I feel like my lips are always getting chapped. Especially with colder weather coming in. This way I can always be able to keep my lips moisturized and silky soft because no one wants dry flaky lips. Lotion- It's important to also keep your skin moisturized. Drinking more water also helps with dry skin but to fix it faster lotion is an easy fix to dry hands, legs, etc. Lipstick- Whenever I'm in a hurry I always seem to forget to put on my lipstick. To solve this problem I always keep a pale pink lipstick in my purse just in case. Compact Mirror- Great for checking up on my makeup. Plus whenever I forget to put on lipstick I can use this mirror to apply it perfectly without any mistakes. Hair ties- I never know when I'll want to put up my hair. Whenever it's a windy day I hate having my hair blow in my face so I just put it up instead. Oil-Absorbing Sheets- I hate having a shiny face and with these sheets on hand I can just absorb the oil away. The great thing about these sheets is that they don't take off your makeup. Roll-on-Perfume- Every so often it's nice to refresh myself with a nice sweet scent I like. Nail-Clippers- Hang nails are the worst.Do I even need to say more? Small notepad- I never know when an idea might hit me. I prefer writing down my ideas with pen and paper. Plus I never know when my phone will die and I won't be able to use my notepad on my phone. Pen and Pencil- I always am in need of a writing tool whether it be for taking notes in my note pad or because I need to write contact information down for someone. Single serving Drink Mixes- Sometimes I just get sick of having plain water all day so I keep a few drink mixes in my purse just in case. Instead of drink mixes I sometimes also like to have cold brew tea bags on hand. Soda fountains, poodle skirts, cateye glasses, drive in diners, etc. Yes I'm talking about the 50s. Below are some things that were in style around the 50s. - Little white gloves - Envelope purses - Cateye glasses - Saddle shoes - Scarves (tied around neck or head) - Letter jackets/sweaters - Circle skirts (knee/calve length) - Pencil skirts (knee/calve length) - Nylon stockings - Rolled cuff jeans - Little hats (for church) For the makeup they would usually just go simple with a lipstick and some rouge. Most of the time they did their hair with curlers or put it in a pony and tied a scarf in it.
